New Pillows

I got new pillows!  Taking a few more steps here to add accessories to my house!

These Blue Damask pillows are going to go on the couch in our Master Bedroom.  I ordered them from Etsy, and I can't wait to see how they work out.  It will be great to have some pattern added to the room.

I also ordered this pillow from Etsy as well, but this one will be an accent pillow in the living room.  Or that's the plan!

I also bought a couple of these pillows from World Market not too long ago (they look very similar to ones that Pottery Barn has too).  I got the natural to go in the living room, and the aqua to go on the bed in our Master Bedroom.

New Gallery Wall

This past weekend was wonderful! I spent a lot of time meeting up with friends to chat and catch up, doing things around the house, and spending time with my wonderful husband!  It was great.  I've been busy with work and definitely needed a weekend to rest and catch up on life....it of course was just too short! Isn't it always?  :)

Remember the corner of our Master Bedroom that I said needed art or a gallery wall?  Well, this past weekend I finally hung up the new silver frames I got from Ikea to make a little gallery wall over the couch.  I already love looking at the pictures and remembering great times from vacations, wedding and holidays.  I even caught my husband standing in front of them last night taking a look.  I like that it makes our bedroom more personal.

Also this past weekend the hubby and I had a wonderful breakfast on Saturday morning together at one of our favorite spots to hang out.  I had a delicious veggie omelete and a frozen mimosa!!  (hubby had one too - shhhh he doesn't like to admit that he enjoys them!)

And Saturday night we had our friends over that we went to Belize with to attempt to make pupusas! (remember I raved about them in my summer love post)  I think it was definitely a success!  We made the coleslaw and sauce that was almost spot on to what their version was like.  As for the actual pupusas, I'd say we need to work on the dough - it wasn't quite like theirs. But we'll give it another try sometime.  As for the fillings, we did pork, shrimp, beans and cheese (monterrey jack, goat and oaxaca) - we mixed up the varieties and they were all pretty fantastic if I do say so myself!  I didn't take any pictures sadly, but what I did capture a picture of is that one of our friends brought over this cake as a surprise!  So fun!

(I apologize for the pics. I'm having to use my phone until we can replace my old camera.)

Hope you all had a great weekend as well, and I hope your week is already off to a great start! Only 4 more days till the next weekend!

LOOKS for LESS!

Pottery Barn is definitely at the top of my list of favorite stores!  I get excited every time a new issue of their catalog comes in the mail - I love looking through the pictures for decorating inspiration.  However, it's not always the most affordable store to shop at when you have a whole house to fill.  Do not get me wrong, I have bedding, dishes and accessories all from PB that I love.  I just can't help myself though as I always fall in love with their furniture too, which the hubby is not so fond of the big ticket price!!  Here's the trick though - I've learned to use PB as my inspiration but challenge myself to shop elsewhere to find the same look for less, especially for those big ticket items!

When shopping for our Master Bedroom, I absolutely adored PB's Hudson Bed.  After a little research, I found a VERY similar bed at Bassett Furniture, which was perfect since we have one about ten minutes from our house.  I knew the price was already a lot cheaper than the PB price, but when we bought the bed, they were having a Memorial Day sale, and we were able to get the King Bed for only $500!  Can't beat that!  Here's the comparison of the two beds:

Hudson Bed & Dresser, Full, Mahogany stain

And now our Bed that I showed you before from our Master Bedroom:

I think the two beds are very similar, and I still get the same look I was going for, so the savings was totally worth spending time to shop around and find the look for less!

Our Master Bedroom

So my husband, Jeff and I have been married a little over a year ago. We've slowly been acquiring furniture to fill our first house!  Now that we have some furniture to actually fill some of the spaces, I want to start working on the decorations to add more character and style to the spaces....and of course we'll continue to buy more furniture as needed.  Sorry hubby we're not done yet!

I wanted to show you what I've done with our Master Bedroom so far.

Here is the Master Bedroom BEFORE we moved in with the prior owner's belongings.

Here is our Master Bedroom now AFTER we have moved in and bought our bedroom furniture!

After these pics were taken, I have added a woven burlap bedskirt to add more texture to the sides of the bed, but I still put it behind the footboard, so you can just barely see it peeking out at the end of the bed.  I love it! I also have been looking at some burlap throw pillows or light blue damask patterned pillows. So, I still need to find more pillows for the bed and the couch in our sitting area!  Of course a flatscreen tv is on the list too as the one we have now is a bit of an eyesore, and don't laugh, we do turn it at an agle to watch tv from the bed! haha  Also, artwork for the wall by the couch is on the list too!  Maybe some sort of gallery wall...
